My name is Kate, which is what you all can call me (only the doctor calls me Katherine :) ).....or Kater, Katem, K...and I am a junior @ Grove City College in Pennslvania. Home is sunny, wonderful San Diego, CA!
There's a pic of me
* I'm an econ major/sociology minor
* I serve as an RA (Resident Assistant) on campus to 30 wonderful under and upperclassmen women. Also on campus, I'm the student coordinator as well as a participant in the Women's Discipleship Group Program, student assistant @ the Career Services Office and compete with the college's debate team.
* I love the ocean. And one-on-one/small group heart-to-heart converstaions. And being with family. And sun. And eating berries and fresh veggies and fish. And traveling. And playing worship songs on guitar/piano. I love mentoring/discipling girls younger than me as well as being mentored by women older than me and I'm so blessed to have 2 parents, 2 mentors and 2 best friends who the Lord has taught me so much through and has provided a huge source of spiritual growth through them as vessels of His grace.
* I've had the opportunity to travel to 5 continents....--- I lived in Japan for 5 years when I was younger and have been to countries in Europe, Africa, South America and North America. I've never gone on a missions trip overseas before, but have been blessed with several opportunities to "do missions" within my home churches by serving in childrens and music ministries <-- LOVE. So, I've had a lot of cross cultural experience and service/missions experience, and I'm looking forward to seeing them combined!
* I am so excited to meet and get to know this team!!! God has been working so much to make this trip happen. Long story short, my school selects 7 students to send overseas in the summer for a missions assignment and I was blessed with selection as one of them this year. Our task was to find programs that would work within the timeframe, expectations and price. I was very set on going to SouthEast Asia. Very.set. Throughout my life, the Lord has confirmed that in the future I'm somehow supposed to be serving in some capacity to the Philippines and so I naturally assumed that somewhere in that area would be appropriate for this summer. I pushed and pushed, but doors were being closed and the Lord ,especially these past few weeks, was helping me to hear Him so clearly and He told me very cleary that Honduras is where He wants me this summer. To be completely honest, I was not too happy at first, because my longing is for SouthEast Asia and living next door to central America, I wanted to go someplace wild and exotic and different. The Lord has done such a huge act of faithfulness and slowly turned my heart around to be comforted by the promise in Psalm 37:4- Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. I always thought that meant, 'put God first and He'll give you what you want', but He's been showing me more and more that it's 'listen to His calling and regardless of if it's where we might have longed for before, He will literally GIVE US the DESIRE and longing to be in a place, because it's His love and not our own that is propelling us. This is a theme that the Lord has showed me has been consistent on His end in communicating to me throughout my life and even though I might not have high energy excitement, He has given me such a peace about Honduras that 'surpasses all understanding' and description (Phil. 4:6-7). The prospect of serving with you all, love on and just 'be' with families in Honduras is exciting and the Lord has definitely (lovingly and gently) woken me up to the fact that this- or any missions assignment- is not about me going over there to show my love to a certain place/people group or show my desire or passion, but to be an open vessel so that Christ's love can flow through us!
It's humbling to know that I'll be able to serve with you all this summer and that the Lord is crafting this team!
