Hey y’all! My name is Rebecca Harrod: Half my friends call me Becca, the other half call me Rebecca. I don’t really have a preference. I’m from one of the friendliest cities ever - Louisville, Kentucky: where the Kentucky Derby is basically a month long holiday and where putting spaghetti noodles in chili is a normal thing to do. Contrary to popular belief, we wear shoes when we go out and we don’t marry our cousins…say whaaat??
I’m a 19 year old sophomore at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Its two hours away from my house and two hours away from anything to do. My major is Spanish and my minors are Latin American Studies and Non-Profit Administration. I absolutely love Spanish and Latin American culture, you’ll forsure pick up on this when you meet me. I’m a barista at a coffee shop on campus and I get to wear a cool apron while I make everyone’s overpriced drinks.
I love to travel! If I could get paid to run around the world and meet new people I would! Sometimes when school gets crazy I consider dropping out, becoming a hobo, and living on Huntington Beach. I also love painting; it’s the most stress relieving thing ever. I’ve painted everything from TOMS shoes to my sister’s guest book for her wedding. Some of my favorite things are bright colors, ice cream, and happy people. I thought of three things I don’t like: math, white cake, and cold weather. Kentucky’s a great place, but after graduation I’m moving somewhere where it snows…well, never.
Throughout middle school and high school, I spent a few Spring Breaks going with my youth group to cities all over the US to help out churches in different areas. I’ve been on two international mission trips with my church and they were both to Guatemala. It’s because of the experiences I had there that I am the person I am today.
I’m so excited for our Honduras trip! God has filled my heart with compassion for the people of Central America and I’m so ready to share the love of Christ with them. I’ve been on a long, slightly painful journey to get to where I am today. Jesus has taught me so much about His grace and forgiveness and I want to share with others the incredible person of who God is! I’m a pretty adventurous person so the thought of living in another country for two months seems awesome. I’m sort of nervous about getting sick or something while there, but the thought that we’re going to be doing exactly what God has called us to do overshadows that!
I’m so excited to meet all of y’all! It’s going to be a great summer.
Psalm 18:30 “As for God, His way is perfect.”
Here’s a picture of me. I felt super lame cropping other people out of it but I couldn’t find any recent pictures of just me so this will have to do.
